From Wentelteefjes

  • 16 slices stale bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 1/2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups milk (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup butter

Cut the bread into cute triangles. You can cut the crusts off the bread if you want. I left them on. Beat the eggs with the sugar and cinnamon, then add milk and blend well. Place the bread slices in a large shallow dish and pour the egg mixture over. Soak for at least 5 minutes, or until the liquid has been absorbed. Remove the slices and drain on a rack over a baking sheet.

Working in batches, brown the butter in a pan over medium heat (cast iron makes a nice brown crust). Fry the bread slices until golden brown, then repeat on the other side. Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar and blueberry syrup.
