Poutine gravy sauce

From Canada vs. Finland: a snack-off

Poutine

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed with garlic press
  • 1 can condensed beef broth
  • 1 can beef consomme
  • 1 can condensed chicken broth
  • black pepper

Preparation

Mix the corn starch and water together and set aside. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and cook 3-4 minutes until it is golden brown. Add the garlic and cook about 30 seconds. Add the broths and bring to a boil. Whisk in the cornstarch mixture and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with pepper.
