Europe 2010 – 5 days and counting

So, the Boy and I, as well as our dear friends, J&H are setting out this weekend on the European adventure of a lifetime. Well, maybe not of a lifetime, because I certainly intend on going there more often once I am rich…and of course when I am rich I will stay in nothing less than the most luxurious accommodations. But anyway, this trip, we are doing it on the cheap. Or mid-range, I guess.

We have a general idea of the route we want to take and it goes a little something like this:

Helsinki, Finland
Tampere, Finland
Tallinn, Estonia
Riga, Latvia
Stockholm, Sweden
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Bled, Slovenia
Vienna, Austria
Bratislava, Slovak Republic
Budapest, Hungary
Belgrade, Serbia
Podgorico, Montenegro
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Split, Croatia
Zadar, Croatia
Venice, Italy

We are renting a car in Ljubljana so the plan after that point gets really loose because we will have so much blissful freedom and no schedules to abide by. The highlights of the trip, for me anyway, is Slovenia and Croatia. But all the places look awesome. Slovenia especially interests me because the traditional food is apparently a cross between eastern european and italian.
Things I want to do:

  • Go to a Finnish sauna;
  • Eat Swedish meatballs;
  • See architecture thats like, 900 years old. Crazy;
  • Drink beer on a barge bar;
  • Go hiking;
  • Ride a horse on an island in the middle of a cerulean coloured lake;
  • Eat horse meat;
  • Okay maybe I won’t eat horse meat but it’s there – if someone else eats it I’ll watch;
  • Rent a bike;
  • Eat Finnish donuts;
  • Stay in a hostel that used to be a prison and each cell has been renovated and designed by an artist;
  • Drink Viennese coffee;
  • Learn swear words in Croatian;
  • Go to a turkish bath (in Hungary);
  • Go on a boat trip; catch fish; eat fish I just caught;
  • A million other things.

Sigh – Friday can’t come fast enough…

    Meet your brother and I in Venice? We'll have that coffee you talked about. 🙂 Hope you're having a great time!
